Monday, 8/3 - 37 miles. Met a lot of interesting people in the hiker/biker campsite. One of them, Ari, decided to cook breakfast for everyone this morning. As a result of that and talking to people in the campsite we didn't get on the road until 11 am. The riding started with a big climb but subsequent climbs were more moderate. The road along the coast is bounded by steep mountains on the east and a drop off to the ocean on the west. Most of the land adjacent to the road is unsuitable for anything so their are few towns or houses along this stretch. We met up with Tim who we have seen off and on since Oregon. The three of us shared a room tonight at the Gorda Springs Lodge in Gorda, CA. The lodge is basically a motel, general store, bar and restaurant standing alone on the Pacific coast. We have noticed a change in the weather. Previously riding along the ocean was windy and cold. However, although it is still windy the weather is much warmer on the coast now. We have also found very spotty cell phone service with no service available at all most of the time over the past two days. I guess that is not surprising because it doesn't appear the many people live along this section of the coast.
