Another short day - 38 miles. We are traveling at an "old fart" pace!! Will try for an early start tomorrow morning. We met another biker last night - Alan - who had cycled from Montana. We were going to ride today with Alan but he seemed to have disappeared this morning when we took off. We continued on Whidbey Island and passed the Naval Air Station which was pretty noisy with jets and prop planes flying overhead every 5 minutes. Eventually we rode along the Strait of Juan de Fuca which separates Whidbey Island from the San Juan islands which are located between Canada and the U.S. A lot of beautiful views. Took a Washington State ferry (picture below) to Port Townsend on the mainland, followed a nice hard packed bike trail on an old rail bed and finally stopped in Port Hadlock. (See photo me from behind riding my loaded recumbent bike on the bike path). In the distance we could see Mt Rainier from the ferry but it was too far away to get a photo of it. Unfortunately, upon unpacking I can't find my Kindle which means I must have left it at the campground last night. Oh well!
