Cannon Beach to Tillamook, OR

Got an early start and stopped early so we only covered 40 miles today. We have been passing an increasing number of touring cyclists. Talked to a mother-daughter couple cycling from Cannon Beach, OR to CA. We also passed a lot of cyclists heading north on hwy 101 towards Astoria. At least one of those riders was finishing the Trans-Am bike route which starts in VA and ends in Astoria, OR. Camping at a small RV park tonight which is down the street from the Tillamook Cheese Company. We have been told Tillamook is famous for its cheese! Today was cold along the coast but it is a little warmer where we are camping because we are a few miles inland from the ocean and the sun is actually shining - 1st time we have seen the sun since reaching Astoria, OR. In some places along coast the road is hundreds of feet above the ocean. But in other areas the road drops down to sea level and in the low lying areas we have been seeing Tsunami warning signs. Below is a view of the ocean taken from Oswald West state park. Oswald was a former governor of Oregon who spearheaded the passage of a state law that made most of the Oregon coastline public property.

North of Manzanita, OR along the coastal hwy 101

A narrow tunnel along the coast, a bridge I walked across because it had a blind curve with a lot of trucks so it wasn't safe to ride and an overlook at the top of a large climb.
